*Sailing Vessel MAJI 67'

The original flush deck design of Maji

After many years of neglect, the new owner brought this yacht to a Canadian boat yard where she is currently under reconstruction and receiving a face lift. The original 67' yacht was built by Nelson in Italy. The flush deck, as shown in the picture, was redesigned by DED for a more comfortable cruising oriented deck layout. The yacht has a short cabin trunk and a user-friendly cockpit,

and her racing potential is still intact.

*Alterations on the STRIKER 44' ARC-TIME

Profile drawing of Arc-Time with the new pilothouse

Dieter got to know the owner when he originally designed Arc-On, a 48' twin jet sport fisher, which can be seen on this web site under Power. The owner has a small fleet of charter fishing yachts which he is in the process of updating.

Arc-Time, a Striker 44, is one of three yachts which is presently receiving a face lift. The interior was gutted and two new Detroit Diesel Series 92 V6 engines with 55 hp each replaced the factory installed engines. A lift strip was added for greater planing stability and the interior is now ready for reconstruction. An open fly-bridge will be replaced by a small pilothouse, and the upper deck will have a walk around bridge. Interesting features will be incorporated into the arrangement, such as a roll-up door that will open up the space between the main cabin and the aft cockpit. A center table in the main cabin will actually be an engine box which allows for standing headroom in the engine room. Two double staterooms will share a head with private entrance. An aft head will be added to minimize the traffic throughout the boat. The rest of the interior has been kept open to make the yacht appear larger.

*Sailing Vessel SAPHAEDRA 51' Ketch

K. Aage Nielsen - Design # 314B
Built in 1964 by Paul Luke

          LOA          51'
          LWL          38.5'

The proud new owner of this traditional Aage Nielsen design brought Saphaedra to Dion's Yacht Yard in Salem, (fjdion@msn.com) Massachusetts for a much needed face lift. DED was asked to update some of the interior layout. All Nielsen's drawings have been donated to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and it was an interesting process going through the Nielsen estate to get permission for the Museum to sell copies of the construction plans, which were needed for the rework on this particular boat.

See the accompanying layout drawing for the results of the alterations.<<
